I’ve been building a computer. The last time was in a previous century. A lot has changed since then. It’s much easier now with all the colour coding etc. This new project is a computer that my son and I are building together. It went pretty well assembling it all.
Then we switched it on in full anticipation….. NOTHING… happened.
Not even the usual Bios bleep. After much research it turned out the the Motherboard, a Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4 needed a new bios flashed so it would take the AMD Phenom X4 9950. But of course, in order to flash the bios I need a processor to run. How daft is that! In the end I bought another Amd Athlon just so I could flash the bios.
That went well and after a few weeks investigating, buying and waiting for the order to arrive, we finally got it all done. My son is very happy now.
One issue to resolve is the Graphics card (a Asus HD4850) driver application is reporting a instable 12V power. I can’t see anythong wrong. Reseated all connectors from the 700W PSU. Weird. One for another day.
In case you’re wondering why the Bios wasn’t beeping, we hadn’t recognised the speaker part and not plugged it in. No wonder….

It WAS very hard but it worked out and now it is absolutely great.
