The internet has grown a lot since it’s humble beginnings. It’s all pervasive now. I’ve gathered some interesting facts and statistics in this article about internet traffic.

A lot of information can also be found on the Alexa website.

From the data in the Wikipedia entry I’ve created this graph that shows you how traffic is increasing exponentially over the years.

Multimedia type traffic is still increasing so the amount of traffic per month is likely to shoot up for quite a few years yet.

The only thing that can possibly curb the trend is a clamp down on p2p and spam traffic as an internet traffic report in arstechnica.com suggests.

Also in Sweden last year the volume of traffic reduced because of new laws as this article on the BBC website reports.
